Adolphe Sax gave his name and inventive skill to a vast range of projects, some so bizarre as to make him appear the very soul of the proverbial mad genius. There is hardly a musical instrument of any kind which did not receive his attention. Only two of his conceptions have endured the saxhorn – around which the brass band is built – and that most widely known and prolifically made of all wind instruments, the saxophone.
In the course of his life; piquant humour – largely unintentional at the time – abounds. There is a touch of the comic opera about the courtroom scenes while the man’s commercial naivety will astound even the most unbusinesslike.

This book is incredible. In a short space of only a couple of hundred pages, everything about Adolph Sax is covered. His life is the main content and it goes through it as a biography would with occasional branches to his contemporaries such as the Distin family. After this it starts to talk about the families of instruments he created like the Saxhorns, Saxophones and some occasional writing on the Saxtromba. The detail and content is unmatched on any, even saxophone specific books and Saxhorn players would probably find it even more useful! At the moment the publisher has stopped production of this book which I hope will soon be rectified. In the meantime I give my hopes to anyone trying to find a copy of this book.

This reading format is more than convenient for traveling, also the source for this is accurate and a "must have" for saxophone players.
I enjoyed this book. I found it quite helpful in understanding Adolphe Sax as well as his instruments. The pics in the version are too small to clearly see.
